Debt consolidation an option, says expert

Article Category: Debt Consolidation Help and Advice

Those struggling with money problems can consider debt consolidation as an option open to them, one expert has said.

Experian urged people with debts to "regularly" evaluate their finances on a monthly or at least quarterly basis.

James Jones, consumer education manager at the credit reporter, said those struggling to make payments who feel the situation is "getting out of control" should seek help.

"Debt consolidation is one of a range of options," he added.

According to research from CreditExpert.co.uk, three-quarters of consumers do not accurately know how much they have left to pay on their loans and one in five admit to planning finances once every six months or less.

The research also found that one in ten admitted to having no idea about how much debt they are in.

Meanwhile, the New Statesman warned earlier in the week that a housing recession worse than that of the nineties was looming.
