Energy customers face regional pricing

Article Category: Debt Consolidation Help and Advice

Energy customers are facing higher bills in certain parts of the country, a consumer group has warned.

Which? has revealed that a number of energy firms are charging customers different amounts for their gas and electricity depending on where they live.

This is intended to reflect the different costs involved in piping it around the country.

"The adoption of regional gas prices by some suppliers further emphasises price variations around the country," said Siobhan Parker of Switch with Which?.

"Npower has announced an average gas increase of 12.8 per cent, but customers living in regions such as London and the East Midlands are being hit with a much bigger price rise of 23.8 per cent.

"People must vote with their feet and seek out the best deal to combat the effects of what is ultimately a postcode lottery," she added.

Rising energy bill have put a number of households under real pressure financially, as they have come at the same time as higher council tax charges and mortgage repayments.

With the cost of living rising, many people will be turning to debt consolidation experts this year.
