Hard-pressed Brits urged to budget

Brits struggling to make ends meet in the current financial crisis have been offered a few simple tips to help them save money.
Norwich and Peterborough, the high street lender, said with the economy slowing and bills rising, it was vital that homeowners avoided any unnecessary expenditure.
Tips include checking direct debits to make sure any goods or services are still being used, switching off all unneeded electrical items to keep bills down and making full use of the annual Isa allowance.
"It is refreshing to see that it is often the simple tips that can prove most popular such as changing your shopping habits, or saving on the electricity bills," said Gary Lacey, group product manager at Norwich and Peterborough.
"By adhering to just a few of the tips our customers suggested, families can save little and often, which, in the long run, could add up to a decent amount of money."
The rising cost of living and harder-to-obtain credit have left some people struggling with debt problems.
